In order to consistently deliver his projects on-schedule and under budget, Nolan unsurprisingly runs a pretty tight ship on his movie sets, to the extent that he doesn't allow the presence of two specific things - chairs and bottles of water.

While shooting his small role in The Dark Knight Rises, actor Matthew Modine said of this approach, "There are no chairs on a Nolan set, he gets out of his car and goes to the set. And he stands up until lunchtime. And then he stands up until they say 'Wrap'. He's fully engaged - in every aspect of the film."

And of Nolan's hatred of water bottles? Dunkirk's Mark Rylance added, "They're distractions - the noise of [the bottles], they're like toys almost, playing around with toys."

We're going to assume he probably lets Michael Caine have the occasional sit-down during a 16-hour shooting day, though.
