One of the major reasons that Clueless struck such a chord with young viewers is how, despite its heightened nature, it has its finger firmly on the pulse of young high-schoolers growing up in the mid-1990s.

This wasn't simply a result of Heckerling's knowing screenplay, but the movie's producers actually sitting in on real classes at Beverly Hills High School in an attempt to capture and understand the vibe of privileged youth.

It clearly paid off dividends, though certainly makes one wonder just how many of the movie's most inspired flourishes were literally inspired by real-life students.
