20 Things You Didn't Know About Die Another Day

16. “An Ice Palace Can Be Such A Treacherous Place.”

Gustav Graves turns the intense beam of sunlight generated by his Icarus satellite on the ice palace in an effort to drown Jinx, who is trapped inside Miranda Frost’s bedroom.

The room was constructed atop a hydraulic platform that was lowered into a water tank at Pinewood Studios in Buckinghamshire. This created the illusion that the room was being flooded when it was, in fact, sinking.

In an earlier sequence in which Graves hints at Jinx’s fate, Rosamund Pike was supposed to sneer “She’s chilling in my room”, but the line was unfortunately cut.

Moreover, as Graves, Miranda Frost, and technical wizard, Vladimir Popov (Mikhail Gorevoy, credited as Michael Gorevoy) board the villain’s Antonov cargo plane, Graves remarks: “Time to give the American her bath”. Again, this line was originally written for Pike’s Miranda Frost, but was given to Toby Stephens instead during filming.

Contributor

I started writing for WhatCulture in July 2020. I have always enjoyed reading and writing. I have contributed to several short story competitions and I have occasionally been fortunate enough to have my work published. During the COVID-19 lockdown, I also started reviewing films on my Facebook page. Numerous friends and contacts suggested that I should start my own website for reviewing films, but I wanted something a bit more diverse - and so here I am! My interests focus on film and television mainly, but I also occasionally produce articles that venture into other areas as well. In particular, I am a fan of the under appreciated sequel (of which there are many), but I also like the classics and the mainstream too.
