20 Things You Didn't Know About Die Hard 2

12. Unpredictable Weather Made The Shoot Difficult

Die Hard 2's production was a nightmare of scheduling and logistics due to one main issue: the weather.

In the film's DVD commentary, Harlin explains that it was supposed to be shot in Washington during the winter, but when the crew arrived it was unseasonably warm.

And so, the crew had to trawl northwestern America for a snowy replacement. Ultimately the bulk of the film was shot in Colorado, but even then, snow had to be hauled to the sets from Canada or simply created artificially from snow-like substances such as paper, potato, and rock salt.

Gigantic fans had to be used to blow fake snow into the background of shots and produce the desired atmosphere.

Ironically, though, while filming the epic snowmobile chase in Colorado, the crew was hit by a huge blizzard which forced shooting to shut down.
