20 Things You Didn't Know About Drive

9. The Distributor Was Sued For The Film's "Misleading" Trailer

Drive ended up embroiled in a peculiar lawsuit shortly after its release, as a woman who saw the movie sued distributor FilmDistrict, claiming that the trailers sold it as a more action-packed Fast and the Furious-type affair.

And because that wasn't enough, for added measure she also made the hilariously spurious claim that the film promoted violence against Jewish people per its antagonists being Jewish gangsters.

A judge dismissed the case in 2012, but the woman in question has patently refused to let it go, and was continuing to litigate as recently as 2017.

While it's absolutely fair to say that the original trailer misrepresented the movie's tone by focusing on the smaller bursts of action, was it really manipulative enough to merit legal action?

Instead of getting a trashy Fast and the Furious knock-off you got... a really, really great movie instead. Sorry about that.
