20 Things You Didn't Know About Drive

7. The Original Script Was VERY Different

We know that there were numerous previous versions of the script, both when it was scaled-down from a $60 million movie to a $15 million one, and as Hossein Amini continued to rewrite it right up to production.

An earlier draft of the script reportedly went in a totally different direction in its second half, with Irene being killed by a hitman and the Driver then venturing off on a revenge crusade, where he murders the assassin with razor wire.

After killing Bernie Rose at the end of the film, the Driver would then leave Los Angeles in order to keep Irene's son Benicio (Kaden Leos) and his boss Shannon (Bryan Cranston) safe.

In this draft, Shannon actually survives the events of the movie and helps look after Benicio, ultimately finding him a ranch to live on far away.
