20 Things You Didn't Know About Gone Girl

9. David Fincher & Ben Affleck Had A Dispute Over...Baseball Caps

Gone Girl Rosamund Pike

Of all the things Ben Affleck and David Fincher could've squabbled over during production, it all came down to the baseball cap Affleck was supposed to wear while shooting a scene.

For the scene where Nick is at an airport Fincher wanted Affleck to wear a New York Yankees cap, but the Bostonian Affleck, being a noted fan of the Red Sox, balked at the idea. In his own words, he told his director:

"'David, I love you, I would do anything for you. But I will not wear a Yankees hat. I just can't. I can't wear it because it's going to become a thing, David. I will never hear the end of it. I can't do it.'"

Possibly jokingly, Fincher claimed the production was shut down for four days as this disagreement played itself out and the pair finally agreed to have Affleck wear a Mets cap instead. Fincher also went on to call him "entirely unprofessional."

Between Fincher's incredibly dry, dour demeanour and the tendency for A-list actors to be prima-donnas, though, it's never quite been clarified if Fincher was fully joking or not.

Either way, hundreds of outlets have since run the story as fact, and as such it's graduated to become a movie myth in its own right.
