20 Things You Didn't Know About Gone Girl

10. Rosamund Pike's Performance Was Inspired By Nicole Kidman & Sharon Stone

Gone Girl Rosamund Pike
20th Century Fox

As singular as Rosamund Pike's performance in the movie might seem, she actually took considerable inspiration from two A-list actresses in particular.

Firstly, she studied Nicole Kidman's performance in Gas Van Sant's 1995 black comedy To Die For, and also Sharon Stone's iconic turn in Paul Verhoeven's 1992 erotic thriller classic Basic Instinct.

Given the kindred subject matter of both movies, it's easy to see why she'd use them as touchstones, even if Pike absolutely made the part of Amy very much her own.

In non-cinematic terms, Pike also took notes from the body language and mood of the late Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy, who was the wife of John F. Kennedy Jr.
