20 Things You Didn't Know About Halloween (1978)

14. Who Was Mr. Strode?

Halloween 1978
Compass International Pictures

Laurie's realtor father, Morgan Strode makes a very brief appearance in the film, asking Laurie to leave a key at the old Myers house so that some potential purchasers can take a look around the supposedly haunted homestead.

He was portrayed by the late Peter Griffith, the father of Melanie Griffith and the former husband of Tippi Hedren, who had famously collaborated with Alfred Hitchcock on both The Birds (1963) and Marnie (1964).

Therefore, whilst Jamie Lee Curtis had a direct link to Hitchcock through her mother, Janet Leigh, her character also had an indirect link to Hitchcock through her onscreen father. Sadly, Halloween was one of only two screen credits for Griffith (the other being in The Aldrich Family in 1951).

I started writing for WhatCulture in July 2020. I have always enjoyed reading and writing. I have contributed to several short story competitions and I have occasionally been fortunate enough to have my work published. During the COVID-19 lockdown, I also started reviewing films on my Facebook page. Numerous friends and contacts suggested that I should start my own website for reviewing films, but I wanted something a bit more diverse - and so here I am! My interests focus on film and television mainly, but I also occasionally produce articles that venture into other areas as well. In particular, I am a fan of the under appreciated sequel (of which there are many), but I also like the classics and the mainstream too.
