6. The Scene Of McCauley Watching The Ocean View Is Inspired By A Painting

One of the most visually remarkable moments in the movie sees Neil return to his beach home, put his gun on the table, and stare out into the sea.

It's a gorgeous scene, and one alone which surely bolstered cinematographer Dante Spinotti's worthiness for an Oscar nomination - one which sadly never came.

But the sequence is actually inspired by a piece of existing art - a painting to be precise, named "Pacific" by Alex Colville. The painting similarly shows a man standing by a window taking in the ocean view, all while a gun rests on the table behind him.
