In the first act of the film, Cobb pays a visit to his father-in-law, Professor Stephen Miles (Michael Caine). Given that Cobb is still wanted for suspicion of killing his wife, Miles asks him if it's safe for him to be in the United States.

Cobb replies "Extradition between France and the United States is a bureaucratic nightmare." This is a reference to another film starring DiCaprio, Catch Me If You Can.

In that film, DiCaprio played Frank Abagnale, Jr., who was a con man in his youth particularly notorious for check forgery and impersonation. In the film, as in real life, Abagnale was eventually captured in France, and was later extradited to the United States.

For those wondering, Abagnale was sentenced to twelve years in U.S. prison, but he had his sentence reduced after serving 4 when he agreed to work for the FBI on fraudulent check cases, something he had more than enough experience in. He still consults for the FBI today, and now runs a financial fraud consultancy company. That's quite the turnaround.
