20 Things You Didn't Know About Inglourious Basterds
5. Nation's Pride - The Movie Within A Movie
Inglourious Basterds's 'movie within a movie,' Nation's Pride, is central to the events of the film. Private Fredrick Zoller (Daniel Brühl) has cemented his reputation as a Nazi war hero, allegedly defending a German position from hundreds of Allied soldiers from the safety of a sniper's vantage point. Goebbels decides to make a film depicting these events and casts Zoller as himself.
Back in reality, this film was directed by Eli Roth, the actor playing Donny Donowitz in IB and the director of the Naughties torture-porn classic Hostel.
Over 300 extras were used, along with 180 different camera shots for a mere five minutes of screen time. QT himself makes a cameo appearance in voice only, with the line from a US soldier "I implore you, we must destroy that tower!"
