20 Things You Didn't Know About Inglourious Basterds

So, this really needs to be discussed - what's with that spelling in the title 'Inglourious Basterds?' Here's what QT said at Cannes in 2009, as reported by Today:

"Here's the thing. I'm never going to explain that. You do an artistic flourish like that, and to explain it would just take the piss out of it, and invalidate the whole stroke in the first place."

The Italian director Enzo G Casterllari's 1978 war movie Quel Maledetto Treno Blindato (which translates as 'That Damned Armoured Train') was released to English audiences under the title 'The Inglorious Bastards' and is itself a very distanced remake of The Dirty Dozen, another huge influence on the sponge that is Tarantino.

He also went on to say (via The Guardian) "The Basterds? That's just the way you say it: Basterds," which is a cop-out for sure.

Or maybe he just couldn't get the rights to use Casterllari's English title, despite the Italian director's approval.
