20 Things You Didn't Know About Inglourious Basterds

17. The Anne Frank Connections

Inglorious Basterds
BBC

Anne Frank was a Jewish victim of the Nazi occupation of the Netherlands and died in the notorious Belsen concentration camp in 1945, aged just sixteen. Her diaries, detailing her family's two years hidden in a secret chamber in a house in Amsterdam to avoid capture, were published posthumously and have become one of the most valued accounts of the war.

Inglourious Basterds has several links to this extraordinary girl, the first coming in the tense opening scene. Shosanna's father, glimpsed for a second hiding under the floor of LaPadite's house, is played by Partick Elias, whose father was a cousin of Frank's.

Still not enough? Anne Frank's name is carved onto the 'Bear-Jew's' lethal baseball bat.
