20 Things You Didn't Know About Inglourious Basterds

14. Modern German Censorship

Inglorious Basterds
Universal

After the Second World War, German sensitivities over the use of Nazi imagery were very understandable and as such, the notorious swastika was banned completely. All depictions of any Nazi iconography had to be removed from all of Inglourious Basterds marketing, including posters and billboards.

Interestingly, the law does not apply to 'works of art' and consequently movie depictions of WW2 are able to show uniforms, buildings, propaganda and the swastika. While the poster was edited for display (the swastika on the helmet was replaced with a bullet hole), the film was shown in its uncut form.
