You might think that a writer-director like Nolan would select the scriptwriting or shooting processes as his favourite part of production, but while we're on the subject of Interstellar's sound mix, this was actually the bit he most enjoyed:

"The sound mix is my favorite part of the process. Your biggest creative decisions have been made - the shoot, the cut of the film - and you’re really in there putting the finishing touches on things or exploring different possibilities. It’s a time of pure imagination, where you can just play."

As contentious as they can be, there's no denying that Nolan's sound mixes are memorable, from Hans Zimmer's explosive scores, to the amazing sound effects of something like the Tumbler in the Dark Knight Trilogy.

Both Dunkirk and Inception won Sound Mixing Oscars (while The Dark Knight won Sound Editing), so the industry clearly agrees.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
