20 Things You Didn't Know About Interstellar

17. Mann's Planet Was Filmed On The Same Glacier As Batman Begins

In the second half of the movie, Cooper's crew pays a disastrous visit to Mann's planet, an icy wasteland that turns out to be uninhabitable.

These scenes were filmed on the Svínafellsjökull glacier (try saying that ten times, or hell, even one time) in Iceland, a location that has a special connection to one of Nolan's earlier works.

That work is 2005's Batman Begins, which features several scenes - such as the sword fight between Liam Neeson's Ducard and Christian Bale's Bruce Wayne - filmed at this exact same glacier.

Basically, if you long for somewhere cold and barren, why not visit Iceland?

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
