20 Things You Didn't Know About Jaws 3D
14. They Wanted Murray Lerner
When Alan Landsburg bought the rights to the sequel, he excitedly approached experimental documentarian Murray Lerner to direct. Lerner had been nominated for an Oscar for his documentary Festival. Shot between 1963 and 1966, Festival captured some of the best live concert performances at the Newport Folk Festival, recording the likes of Bob Dylan (when he first went electric), Joan Baez, Donovan, Peter, Paul and Mary and Johnny Cash.
Landsburg tried his hardest, sweetening the deal by telling Lerner that the people at the Florida Marineland theme park had seen his 3-D documentary Sea World and were highly impressed.
Unfortunately for Landsburg, Lerner actually read the script and it hurt his soul. "I can't get involved in this," he said and abruptly declined.
