20 Things You Didn't Know About Layer Cake

17. The Novel's Author Wrote The Script & Wanted To Play Lucky

Layer Cake's script was written by J. J. Connolly, who also happens to be the author of the 2000 novel on which the film is based.

In addition to penning the screenplay, Connolly also lobbied the producers and Matthew Vaughn to play the supporting sidekick role of Lucky, XXXX's trusty sniper.

In the end Connolly was rejected, though, with Paul Orchard instead being cast in his place.

Connolly did have better luck securing a cameo in another British gangster flick a few years prior though, as he played the small role of Barry the Bookie in Mean Machine.
