Despite its status as a cult film, Layer Cake was nevertheless enormously pivotal in cementing the future of the James Bond franchise, as 007 producer Barbara Broccoli has stated that it was Daniel Craig's performance in this movie which made her consider him for the super-spy.

Better still, on the film's DVD commentary, Vaughn himself even comments that Craig "wants to be James Bond," foreshadowing the future awaiting him.

In a cute coincidence, Craig also co-stars in Layer Cake with Ben Whishaw, who would later join the Bond franchise as quartermaster Q - yet in this movie, Whishaw's Sidney is the very man who shoots Craig's XXXX at the end. Oh, the irony.
