20 Things You Didn't Know About Layer Cake

12. The First Draft Of The Script Was 408 Pages Long

Though most feature screenplays run from 90-120 pages, the first draft of Layer Cake's screenplay was a colossal 408 pages - that's likely around four-times the size you'd expect for a 105-minute movie.

To make matters even more ridiculous, the first draft of the script actually ended up running longer than the book on which it's based, which was "only" 344 pages in length.

That's extra amusing when you consider that author J.J. Connolly wrote the screenplay himself, and in his first pass was apparently unable to kill any of his darlings.

By the time the final script was completed, roughly 75% of the original material had been excised.
