12. The Coens Initially Did Not Want Gabriel Bryne To Keep His Irish Accent

The Coens normally do not allow any deviations from their original vision, and in their original plan, Gabriel Byrne was not meant to use his native Irish accent throughout.

However, Byrne continued to lobby for his accent, arguing it was a good fit for the dialogue. The Coens eventually gave in, and, in the finished film, you will notice Byrne, along with Finney, use their native Irish accents.
