20 Things You Didn't Know About Mission Impossible 2

5. The Star Trek Connection

Because of all the production issues that MI2 became besieged with, a lot of people ended up getting involved behind-the-scenes but only one of them did so in order to get another major job.

Veteran film editor Stuart Baird, who had previously worked on Superman and Lethal Weapon, agreed to perform re-cuts of both MI2 and Lara Croft: Tomb Raider in order to land his dream job. That job? Directing Star Trek: Nemesis aka the one with young Tom Hardy in it. What a dream.

He got his wish in the end but sadly Nemesis was a complete disaster with Baird taking a lot of criticism from the actors on set who claimed he didn't understand Star Trek. But perhaps we should be thanking Baird because Nemesis ended up being such a critical and commercial failure, that Paramount decided to cancel another planned Next Generation Trek movie in favour of rebooting the entire franchise.

Which of course resulted in the masterpiece that is the 2009, J.J. Abrams directed Star Trek.
