20 Things You Didn't Know About No Country For Old Men
7. The Mariachi Song
Around the midway point of No Country For Old Men, there is a scene where Llewelyn Moss is lying in the street injured after escaping a chase and shootout with Anton Chigurh.
Moss is discovered by a Maraichi band that stands over his lifeless body and awaken him from his slumber. It’s a fairly innocuous scene in the film at first glance, but a nice little Easter egg is hidden in the Mariachi band’s song if you translate the lyrics into English.
The translated lyrics read:
“You wanted to fly without wings, you wanted to touch the sky, you wanted too much wealth, you wanted to play with fire”
With this knowledge, the songs serves as a narration for what was lead Moss to this point in the film. His desire and greed to keep the money that he discovered at the beginning of the movie has put him at the centre of a dangerous game of cat and mouse, a game he will not able to escape.
