20 Things You Didn't Know About No Country For Old Men
5. Chigurh's Guns
Aside from his cold and callous demeanour, as well as his hideous haircut, Anton Chigurh is also known for the unique arsenal of weapons he uses throughout the movie.
The huge cattle gun that Chigurh carries around with him is probably the most iconic of his weapons, which he uses to open doors or coldly shoot holes in his victim’s heads. The sound of a nail gun was dubbed over the relevant scenes to achieve the quiet, yet unsettling, blast of the gun.
As for the silencer on his shotgun, this had to be specifically designed for No Country For Old Men as no such device actually existed. In the novel, the silencer is described as being the size of a beer can, but since there wasn’t any of that size the Coens had one especially designed for the movie.
Some gun experts have since doubted the silencer’s potential effectiveness in muffling the sound of the shotgun. But hey, at least it looked pretty cool.
