20 Things You Didn't Know About No Country For Old Men
12. 'There Will Be Blood' Halts Shooting
The unpredictable stormy weather wasn’t the only problem the crew faced whilst filming the movie. While on location in Marfa, Texas, shooting was disrupted by another well-known film being shot in the same small city.
Marfa, Texas has a population of fewer than two thousand, but incredibly played host to two of the biggest films of the 2000s at the same time as No Country For Old Men and There Will Be Blood both had scenes filmed in the tiny, desert city.
On one particular day, There Will Be Blood director, Paul Thomas Anderson, was testing some pyrotechnics for his film, which caused a large cloud of smoke to fill the Texas air. It was so large in fact that the smoke was visible from where the Coen brothers were shooting and they were forced to shut down filming for the day.
Outside of this little hiccup, the two productions happily co-existed and they both went on to win numerous awards for their movies, so everyone was happy in the end.
