Everyday movie props such as household and office appliances are usually not expected to break the bank due to their common nature. This was far from the case with one unassuming trash can in Parasite, which cost a staggering 2,300 dollars. Bong Joon Ho chose it for the film because of its silent nature and the smoothness with which it opens.

However, he was less than impressed by its exorbitant price despite its functionality in serving the Parasite's narrative interests. Seeing that other props such as the house coffee table cost well over 19,000 dollars, it is not surprising that Lee Ha-Jun, the film’s set designer, had a nervous breakdown handling the decadent props.
