20 Things You Didn't Know About Shutter Island

19. The Title Is An Anagram Of "Truth And Lies" & "Truth/Denials"

As if Shutter Island isn't mind-blowing enough, there's a cute secret hidden within the movie's title itself.

As it turns out, "Shutter Island" is an anagram of both "truth and lies," and "truth/denials," which considering that the story's narrative centers around a traumatised man residing within a fabricated existence in order to deny his own truth, couldn't be more apt.

The anagram shenanigans fit even better when you consider that it's revealed later in the movie that the name of protagonist Edward Daniels (DiCaprio) is an anagram of his real identity, Andrew Laeddis, while Rachel Solando is also an anagram of Daniels' dead wife Dolores Chanal (Michelle Williams). Clever.
