20 Things You Didn't Know About SPECTRE (2015)

The filmmakers shut down London's Westminster Bridge over the course of several weekends to shoot the crash-landing of Ernst Stavro Blofeld’s escape helicopter and James Bond's confrontation with the SPECTRE leader, but the film's finale raised as many questions as it answered.

This was because no one really knew if Daniel Craig would be returning as Double-0 Seven; the original ending to the film had seen Bond shoot the villain dead, but this was shelved in favour of allowing Christoph Waltz to return if Craig did.

A highly-detailed replica of Westminster Bridge was also built on the Albert R. Broccoli 007 Stage at Pinewood Studios, surrounded by a backdrop that convincingly depicted the exterior of the Houses of Parliament and London at night.

The key players (Craig, Waltz, Léa Seydoux, and Ralph Fiennes) appeared at both locations, but the work on the 007 Stage helped when filming the more dangerous scenes, as well as those that might have revealed the true identity of Waltz’s character, as the location filming had been closely observed by the media.

I started writing for WhatCulture in July 2020. I have always enjoyed reading and writing. I have contributed to several short story competitions and I have occasionally been fortunate enough to have my work published. During the COVID-19 lockdown, I also started reviewing films on my Facebook page. Numerous friends and contacts suggested that I should start my own website for reviewing films, but I wanted something a bit more diverse - and so here I am! My interests focus on film and television mainly, but I also occasionally produce articles that venture into other areas as well. In particular, I am a fan of the under appreciated sequel (of which there are many), but I also like the classics and the mainstream too.
