20 Things You Didn't Know About Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope

4. The Millennium Falcon's Design Was Inspired By A Hamburger

George Lucas laboured over the Millennium Falcon's design considerably during pre-production, even giving the original elongated design a drastic overhaul after realising he'd unconsciously ripped-off the Eagle Tranporter ships from the sci-fi series Space: 1999.

The inspiration for the Falcon's design ended up coming from a most unexpected place: a hamburger Lucas was eating.

When he looked at the burger, he realised the shape of the half-eaten meat patty would help the Falcon stand out in a sea of familiar sci-fi ships.

Legend persists that the cockpit was also inspired by an olive that was on the plate next to the burger.

Genius often comes from strange and unexpected places, but even so, who ever could've expected this?
