As divisive as the movie was, most of us can agree that one of its sure-fire breakout characters was Babu Frik (Shirley Henderson), the adorable alien droidsmith who helps the heroes by retrieving information from C-3PO's (Anthony Daniels) memory banks.

Despite being just nine inches tall, Babu Frik's mechanical complexity required the combined efforts of five puppeteers to convincingly bring him to life.

These puppeteers were kitted out in green screen costumes which were then digitally erased during post-production.

In addition to voicing Babu, actress Shirley Henderson also learned how to puppet Babu's mouth on set, in turn helping her get in sync with the crew for improvisation.
