Despite filming such an absurd amount of material, the irony is that The 40-Year-Old Virgin is nevertheless the director's shortest film to date, clocking in at "only" 116 minutes.

Apatow has had a penchant for beefy runtimes throughout his career, as he is so often criticised for, to the extent that this film is his only one to date to run less than two hours in length.

He reached his self-indulgent peak a few years later in 2009, though, with the Adam Sandler-starring dramedy Funny People, which dared to run in at a bladder-busting 146 minutes. Oof.
