20 Things You Didn't Know About The 40-Year-Old Virgin

5. Steve Carell Wrote An Alternate PG-13 Version Of The Script

According to none other than Seth Rogen, Steve Carell was so anxious that Universal was going to shut the movie down that he and Judd Apatow ended up preparing an alternate, PG-13 version of the script without any swearing or hyper-adult content.

Presumably this script could've been rotated in if Universal continued to express dissatisfaction with both Carell's performance as Andy and the project as a whole, though thankfully it never came to that.

Considering how thoroughly R-rated the movie is, there would've been no possibility for a sanitised, cleaned-up version to offer the same frank yet sweet perspective on sex.
