6. Mike Was Due To Disappear First

In The Blair Witch Project, Josh (pictured) ends up disappearing overnight mid-way through the movie. From there, Heather and Mike embark on a quest to try and find him – which all ends in trouble for the three of them.

The original plan – even once the shoot had commenced – was for Mike to be the one to disappear. Instead, the decision was made to switch things around while production was ongoing.

This call was made due to the constant arguing between Heather and Josh, which had become so bad that the duo’s bickering was disrupting the shoot. And thus, the fates of Mike and Josh were switched around so that Josh disappeared and could be pulled out of the shooting environment.

In post-production, the stormy relationship between Heather and Josh was edited out and the spotlight instead shone on the arguments between Heather and Mike – which was now to drive the narrative of the film.
