During the first scene where Blondie shoots Tuco down from a hanging (and then unnecessarily shoots a load of hats off people's heads), the sound of the gunshot spooked the horse that Eli Wallach was sitting on, causing it to stampede into the distance.

With his hands tied behind his back, Wallach had no choice but to cling on for dear life using just his knees. The horse continued for nearly a mile before the crew finally managed to catch up to it and stop it, leaving Wallach exhausted but thankfully unharmed, having narrowly escaped what could have been a fatal fall.
