It's worth mentioning two things before we delve into The Curse: Richard Donner believes in it and the studio likes people to believe it.

Both facts are significant in how events surrounding the shooting of the film influenced its crew and cast and how the studio blatantly used tragedy for PR. So while Donner sincerely believes a curse still plagues those who worked on the film, the studio saw it only as a cynical way to drum up business.

Both Gregory Peck and David Seltzer were on separate planes en route to London to begin shooting when an engine on the former's plane was knocked out by lightning. Not eight hours later, Seltzer's plane was reportedly also struck.

Be wary, however, as there is no verification for this particular incident. It may well have been generated by the studio. Nevertheless, plenty of odd happenings occurred onset, enough to warrant the studio's advertising warning to take note of any bizarre occurrences around you.
