20 Things You Didn't Know About The Prestige

6. It Was Hugh Jackman And Scarlett Johansson's SECOND Magician Movie Of The Year

Bizarrely, The Prestige was the second movie in 2006 that starred Hugh Jackman and Scarlett Johansson, and even more bizarrely, it was also the second one that involved magicians and magic.

Released a few months before The Prestige, Scoop was directed by Woody Allen, and follows Johansson's character as she investigates the murder of British journalist Joe Strombel. Along the way, she enlists the help of magician Sidney Waterman, and the two try to crack the case by searching for evidence that Jackman's character, Peter Lyman, committed the crime.

It's not a very good movie and it doesn't involve magicians anywhere near as much as The Prestige does, but it's such an odd coincidence that we thought we'd give it a mention here.

Oh, and another magician movie - The Illusionist, starring Edward Norton - was also released in 2006. Busy year for wizards!

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
