20 Things You Didn't Know About The Shining

3. Jack Nicholson Was TOO GOOD At Chopping Down Doors

Another fact that you didn't know, yet makes way too much sense when you hear it was the fact that Jack Nicholson went through an inordinate amount of doors while rehearsing the "here's Johnny" scene.

Now on one hand this isn't all that shocking, because it's a scene rehearsal by a guy who LOVED him some double digit takes, so of course because the scene in question has a guy knocking down a door, they're gonna go through a few doors before they get it right, 60 of the things, to be exact.

But the part that's weird is just how easily and efficiently without anyone needing to train him Jack Nicholson was. Apparently he used to work as a volunteer firefighter, so he already had more than enough training needed to properly knock down a door with an ax.

The fact that a guy like Jack Nicholson knows way too much about taking an ax to another person's door shouldn't be all that surprising, but it's still nice to have the confirmation.
