Anyone at all familiar with the story of The Shining knows that King and Kubrick did NOT get along. At all.

Kubrick didn't seem to think very highly of the book, even calling the writing of the king of novelized horror "weak" when King first turned in the screenplay he wrote for the movie. Just to further prove that his balls were made out of granite, he proceeded to pen a new screenplay with famed novelist Diane Johnson for the screenplay that would ultimately be used for the movie.

As a result, King found the movie that shocked audiences around the world a betrayal of his work and everything he poured into it. There were many reasons for this, one of which was turning the story of Jack Torrence from a man's slow, tragic descent into madness into a story about horrible circumstances revealing the monster that was ALWAYS under Jack's skin. It's ultimately subjective as to which approach would have been better for the movie in this case, but there was another sticking point King had with the movie that IS a little odd.
