20 Things You Didn't Know About The Social Network

18. Jonah Hill Nearly Played Sean Parker

When pop-star Justin Timberlake was cast as Sean Parker, many believed it was nothing more than a stunt casting. But in the actual film, Timberlake holds his own acting alongside Oscar nominees and was arguable robbed of a nomination for Supporting Actor. He steals nearly every scene he's in as the paranoid and pretentious co-founder of Napster.

So it's incredible to think that the role nearly went to Jonah Hill. Like LaBeouf, the studio picked out Hill, who was known primarily for his comedic work, to play Parker but Fincher wasn't interested in him and took a gamble on Timberlake, which paid off big time.

Of course Hill proved his dramatic chops the year after The Social Network was released, starring in the acclaimed Moneyball, for which he received his first Oscar nomination for Supporting Actor. Yet he still regrets missing out on playing Parker, although he loves Timberlake's performance:

David Fincher didn’t want me in Social Network. It was between me and Justin Timberlake for that part. Obviously [Fincher’s] the man, but he was not having me. The studio wanted me, I think, and then Timberlake was amazing in it.” Social Network is the one that I was actually like years later was like, ‘f**k, like I’m so bummed.' That’s a movie I watch on a loop. You can watch that movie any time.”
