20 Things You Didn't Know About Waterworld

6. Filming Was Shut Down Three Times Due To Hurricanes

Despite so much of the film being shot on a purpose-built water set off the coast of Hawaii, the production didn't bother researching the weather conditions of their shooting schedule.

As it turned out, the area where Waterworld was shot was prone to 45mph winds, resulting in the set often being blown out of position, requiring time-consuming resets and causing some shots to be outright ruined.

Worse still, filming had to be shut down three times due to hurricanes, resulting in part of the movie's sets being destroyed. Naturally, a speedy rebuild was considerably costly.
