20 Things You Didn't Know About Waterworld

16. Kevin Costner Invested $22 Million Of His Own Money In The Movie

As much flak as Costner catches for being a diva on the set of this movie, you have to give him some begrudging respect for believing enough in the project to invest $22 million of his own money in it.

Further still, he was on set for 157 days, working 6 days a week to get it made.

That makes his rather extravagant lifestyle during the movie's production, living in an oceanfront villa with a butler, chef, and private swimming pool to the tune of $4500 per night, slightly less obnoxious.

Yet despite stumping up more than 10% of the movie's final budget himself, his fine living nevertheless frustrated the crew, who were conversely made to live in sub-par condominiums without insulation or air conditioning.
