16. Grindhouse Has The Highest Horror Movie Body Count Of All Time

Screw the underwhelming box office performance numbers. Grindhouse, the crazily ambitious double-feature from Robert Rodriguez (responsible for the gory zombie romp Planet Terror) and Quentin Tarantino (he of the women-in-danger, car chase hybrid Death Proof), never stood a chance with mainstream audiences.

A pure, uncompromised flashback to old-school exploitation films mostly seen in trashy cinemas, Grindhouse catered to a very specific kind of moviegoer: One who'd choose Herschell Gordon Lewis over Joseph Gordon-Levitt any day. As far as in-theater experiences are concerned, nothing has topped Grindhouse's four-hour ride since its release.

Another aspect of Grindhouse that has yet to be topped is its immense body count. Namely, the film has the honor of having the most on-screen deaths in horror history, topping out at 310. This includes Quentin himself, who has quite the gruesome death in the film (involving mutated genitalia).

Other top contenders include the original Dawn Of The Dead (at 175 deaths) and the Zack Snyder reboot (at 131 deaths).  In other words, love it or hate it, Grindhouse's over-the-top mayhem is comparable to none other.
