1. The Zodiac Case Was Re-Opened After The Film's Release
Despite the movie's box office failure, Zodiac did nevertheless renew global interest in the unsolved case. Though the SFPD marked the case "inactive" in April 2004, they re-opened it in March 2007, the very same month Fincher's film hit cinemas.
Even so, little headway has been made in the case since, yet in December 2020 Zodiac's "Z-340" cipher was finally deciphered by a team of private citizens 51 years after it was first received, with their findings later verified by the FBI.
