20 Things You May Have Missed In Creed
4. The Technical Prowess Behind The Movie's Standout Scene
While the Rocky films have been renowned for their hard-hitting boxing scenes, none of them truly compare to what Ryan Coogler and co. crafted in Creed. The opening brawls and the climactic bout are impressive in their own right, but one second act sequence raised the bar for the franchise and genre as a whole.
Donnie's two-round match against Leo Sporino (Gabriel Rosado) was not only well-choreographed and paced, it was also shot in one take, ensuring that each blow and dodge was taken in stunning detail.
The film's DP, Maryse Alberti, revealed that the sequence did not require any form of digital assistance and that she (as well as camera operator Ben Semanoff and fight coordinator Clayton Barber) opted to employ a more realistic and immersive approach to the match. This continuous style of filming was seen throughout the film as it features multiple one takes.
