20 Things You May Have Missed In Creed

1. The Significance Behind Adonis' Trunks

Creed Paulie's Tombstone
MGM

As highlighted earlier on, Creed is a film that explores the relationship between fathers and sons, as well as how the actions and presence/absence of the former can shape the latter. This theme is tied to the concept of legacy and it is explored in a most unexpected manner: Adonis' trunks.

First worn by Apollo before they were given to Rocky, the red, white and blue trunks hold significant weight by the events of Creed. The shorts' most key aspect is the inclusion of the name 'Johnson' on their back.

The presence of both names is important to the character as they represent the gravity underlining Donnie's lineage (Creed) and the path that he can chart free of the Creed name (Johnson). In addition to this, they embody the resolution to Adonis' internal struggle regarding his passed father.
