20 Things You Probably Didn't Know About Children Of Men
7. The Film's Newspapers Aren't Just Throwaway Props
The newspapers in the room where Theo is interrogated by the Fishes are not simple props with the standard Loren Ipsum text splashed on them. Instead, they are fleshed out reports on the events that shaped the world to be what we see it in 2027.
This includes a dig at King Charles, nuclear devastation in Africa and American cities being run by militia groups. Based off a keen glance of the setup, it is clear that the outside world is faring far worse than London in 2027 and adds another layer to the film's overall desolate atmosphere.
The shot is not particularly important to the story but is another excellent means of fleshing out the nightmarish future these characters inhabit and is a testament to the production design's team grasp of the film's narrative.
