20 Things You Probably Didn't Know About Children Of Men
17. The Film's Freesound (And Dubstep?) Landmark
Children of Men has the honor of being the first wide release film to legally use a Creative Commons licensed piece of audio from Freesound.org.
The audio (known as “male loud scream”) can be found here and although it may not be particularly relevant to the film’s presentation, its landmark inclusion makes for an interesting piece of trivia for enthusiastic cinephiles and sound effects/design enthusiasts. Plus, as far as relatively obscure sound work goes, the scream is effectively terrifying.
In addition to this, the film features a more dubious first as it is also of the first films to feature dubstep songs on its soundtrack from artists such as Digital Mystikz and Pinch. Fortunately, the film's use of the songs are not at all distracting and this let pieces such as Fragments of a Prayer by famed composer John Tavener breathe.
