20 Things You Probably Didn't Know About Children Of Men

12. Clive Owen's Work Behind The Scenes

Children Of Men
Universal

Clive Owen was fantastic as the film’s lead and he imbued former activist Theo Faron with a weariness and melancholy befitting the film’s tone and story. It turns out that the actor also served as an uncredited writer on the film after he impressed Cuaron and scriptwriter Timothy J. Sexton.

Although not unprecedented, it was unexpected for Owen to have so much creative input in the film and this is all the more impressive after Cuaron mentioned that he considered the actor and DP Lubezki the film's primary creative voices.

According to the filmmaker, Owen understood the delicate dance of balancing the film's shocking events around a restrained and detached character such as Theo, among other narrative contributions.

This level of creative influence most likely influenced Owen's performance and made it easier for him to inhabit his character and understand his motivations. If anything, this shows that Owen may have a promising career behind the camera if he chose that path.
