20 Things You Probably Didn't Know About Logan

11. The Watchmen Comic Was More Influential Than Expected

DC Comics

Old Man Logan is commonly cited as the film’s primary inspiration, and this claim does hold some merit. From the character’s advanced age and weakened abilities, seemingly post-apocalyptic setting and road trip elements, the famed comic definitely played a role in shaping Logan’s structure.

That said, the movie is a different beast from the comic in many ways and seems to take inspiration from a number of Wolverine stories (especially Craig Kyle’s X-23 run). Beyond the expected source material however, the feature derives thematic insight from Alan Moore’s seminal Watchmen comic (specifically the questions of legacy and the true nature behind heroes’ so-called glory days).

While Logan is not quite as cynical and nihilistic (to a degree) as the beloved graphic novel, it was still able to be just as just as effective in critically examining its hero's complicated life, actions and impact on those around them.
